Prologue

Message in a bottle

Embedded deep inside the Ethereum blockchain is the DEX simulation, a virtual replica of the Universe. ¹

 
 

Dan, an entity living in the DEX simulation, is up to something... ²

Dan lives on Earth, in a place called Hobe Sound. The year is 3024. ³

Hobe Sound is an old city along the south-east coast of Florida.

While strolling the beach one early morning, Dan found a message in a bottle. It was a hologram map of several Earths and strange symbols everywhere!

 
 

He rushed home and began deciphering the symbols… After a few hours he had the message decoded:

Dan was usually good at puzzles but this one was a doozy. Activating terminals scattered across space and time…mesozoic…helix…the engineer?!

Exhausted from thinking so much, Dan passed out.

 
 

Hungry, he woke up in the middle of the night to get a snack and the room was glowing! The hologram was lit with new symbols!

The new symbols deciphered into coordinates.

 

Dan checked his maps and found the location. The Atlantic shelf 275 miles to the north-east… 4,500 feet deep… “I’ll need new gear…” he thought, and went back to sleep.

When he woke up, he brewed some coffee and called his friend John. ⁴

John was a historian and had read of a map similar to the one Dan was describing. He scanned the oldest section of his library and grabbed a book made of metal.

“Traded a mayan shaman a pack of tic-tacs for this…back in 07’…” said John.

After a few minutes of Dan yapping on about some new tech, John interprets the ancient text and reads aloud “the engineers codex: human evolutionary catalyst…”

This adventure was starting to sound quite serious.

Dan needed some time to think, so he went to the beach to watch the sunset.

Staring at the horizon, Dan mumbled to himself “evolutionary catalyst… its not possib…”

 
 

But before he could finish his mumble, a majestic figure emerged from the ocean, and then jumped! She was a mermaid! She gazed at Dan for a few seconds then swam off towards the north-east…

Dan Looked around to see if anyone else had witnessed this miraculous event. But he was the only human at the beach…

People didn’t go outside much anymore...

“Maybe this evolutionary catalyst will be good for us” he thought.

Dan was born in Hobe Sound in 2987. As a young boy he enjoyed surfing, racing dirt-bikes and playing video games. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Space Marines and became well known for his military achievements. He was awarded nearly every medal possible and earned a masters in Organic-chemistry, Aerospace-engineering and Quantum-mechanics. After 10 years of service and obtaining the rank of Commander, he retired and now lives in Hobe Sound (Mystic Cove).

Scholars are still piecing together the ancient history of Hobe Sound. Sometime in the last ~10,000 years there was a catastrophic sunburst event  that destroyed the earths historical and technological record. 
1119 pioneers from the north establish a fishing village and call it Hobe Sound   
1869 a mini ice-age causes a decade of blizzards   
1987 a crack in earths tectonic plate causes a mountain range to form

John was born in Cape Cod in 2986. His family moved to Hobe Sound when he was five years old. That same year John met Dan while surfing and they quickly became good friends. In the summer after high school the two were playing video games but the console broke, so they switched to local TV. A commercial for the Space Marines came on and they were in bootcamp within a week. While enlisted John earned a full chest of medals as well as PhDs in Psychohistory, Cryptography and Reisen-theory and obtained the rank of Admiral. He retired and now lives in Hobe Sound (The Narrows) and is a professor at the Soho University.
